This picture is called GTE because I couldn't think of anything else to
call it - it originally appeared on the cover of the Tampa GTE Phone Book in
September, 1987. The cover was rather popular and not long after it appeared
I read an article in the newspaper about Catherine Hamel, the artist that
created it on a "$100,000.00 computer", probably a dedicated graphics
workstation. The exact make and model of computer wasn't mentioned, just
it's price.
I thought the picture could easily have been done on an Amiga, and
here's the proof. Perhaps not exactly the same (the original probably had a
resolution of at least 1024 X 1024), but then, the Amiga doesn't cost
$100,000.00 either.
Not having any freehand drawing artistic talent at all, I first
Digi-Viewed the phone book cover, and then repainted the whole thing pixel by
pixel using Deluxe Paint's magnifying glass.
GTE would probably claim a copyright on this picture, so they're welcome
to sue me for the whole $7.34 in my checking account.
